10 Major Plot Holes EASILY Answered In Their Video Games

7. Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain - Sahelanthropus Is More Advanced Than Metal Gear Rex

This is a problem for most prequel games, where due to the developers wanting to top what came before, the technology within the newest entry in the franchise can be more advanced despite being set in the past.

Sahelanthropus was a Metal Gear that was massive, had bipedal limbs that made it more humanoid in appearance, and seemed much more agile than the future Metal Gears in the series. It raises the question of why the models such as Metal Gear Rex were more primitive and tank-like compared to this one, thirty years prior.

The short answer is that it isn't actually more advanced.

Its defences pale in comparison to REX, it needs to self-destruct in order to set off a nuke and required a specific pilot with psychokinetic abilities to run. It didn't have full A.I or even a real cockpit for someone to drive, but the upgraded gears were at least fully operational.

It is a severely oversized, weak, and rigid mess of a machine. In broad terms, its basically a puppet to be manipulated and the future models added so many advancements it made this obsolete in record time.

Without Psycho Mantis piloting the thing, it's essentially a giant paperweight.
