3. Resident Evil 4 - Why Didn't Saddler Just Let Leon And Ashley Go?

The villain of Resident Evil 4, Saddler, wants to infect the U.S. President's daughter with his Las Plagas parasite, to manipulate the president. When Leon finds her she's already infected, so fans questioned why the leader didn't just let them leave the island.

Instead, he does everything in his power to ensure they don't escape and this leads to his downfall. Why he didn't just let them to go home and complete his plan - being the parasite would be in them anyway - seems like a massive issue.

On the contrary, Saddler explains he needs the funds from the President's ransom to keep his cult going, and tells us he needs a lot of money to run a religion. If Leon managed to sneak Ashley off the island, Saddler would have no bargaining power and not get the cash he needed.

If that wasn't enough, the parasite inside Leon and Ashley didn't have full control over them yet. Leon already had pills to slow their growth, so there was a chance if they escaped they could have the parasites removed.

Saddler wasn't being a fool, he was simply trying to secure long term victory.
