The first Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines was published in 2004 and is based on a tabletop RPG simply called Vampire: The Masquerade.

This game was really ambitious, but others thought it actually flew too close to the sun in terms of what it was aiming to do. Now, in 2021, we're having a sequel, and it seems like we actually have the right technologies to take full advantage of the aspirations of the series.

Vampire: The Masquerade-Bloodlines 2 is set to be a huge open-world RPG where character choice is front and centre. Set in the Dark World, the game explores a society in which vampires, werewolves, witches, and other monsters form human history.

The vampires are governed by laws to protect their confidentiality and prevent the needless killing and are split into separate clans with distinctive features and skills.

Originally planned for release in March 2020, the game was postponed to an unspecified 2020 release date at the end of 2019, then pushed to an unspecified 2021 release date at the end of 2020.

The delay was due to personnel changes, COVID-19, and the delay in acquiring the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S production kits.

If this game manages to deliver, we're going to have a genuine next-gen RPG.
