10 Massive E3 2016 Rumours You're Not Supposed To Know

8. Battlefield 5 To Return To World War 1

For a time across the 2000s - and entirely thanks to Medal of Honor Frontline's success going supernova - you couldn't move for World War 2 shooters. It wouldn't be until Modern Warfare changed things up that developers actually remembered there were other periods you could tap into, and after wringing that ideology dry through body augments and mind-control in Black Ops III, it appears DICE are taking the military shooter back to its most popular roots.

It all comes from German retailer World of Games, which - in their 'upcoming' section - had a description next to Battlefield 5 as "Mehrspieler Taktik Shooter im 1. Weltkrieg", which translates into "Multiplayer tactical shooter in WW1". Since IGN picked up on it, they've changed to 'Multiplayer tactical shooter' without the added timely description; tying rather neatly into the one piece of information that was supposed to be EA's big reveal somewhere down the line.

Honestly, it all makes sense. Shooter fans have been clamouring for a return to an older setting for years, and with COD looking pretty aimless and Battlefield itself barely iterating for its fourth instalment and then releasing the glorified DLC pack that was Hardline, this could be a win-win.
