4. Drug Abuse and Suicidal Themes Were Cut From Absolution

All in all, even on its best day, Absolution was two steps forwards and one step back.

For one thing, it maintained a stronger plot compared to previous entries, which usually had something going on in the background to either pay attention to or ignore during the contract killings.

47 is scheduled to kill his former handler, Diana Burnwood, and rescue a young girl, at his employer’s request. After hesitantly shooting her, he ditches the Agency’s request and stays in hiding while she remains in the hands of a nearby church.

A chunk of the cutscene that followed after 47 moves into a drab apartment was cut from the final release, showing 47 developing an addiction for booze, killing, and attempted suicide.

Sounds a bit out-of-character, to see him enter a downward spiral of this magnitude. He’s no fallen hero akin to Max Payne, after all. He’s not just a cold-blooded murderer, as we know; he does have more than one dimension.

It’s not a big chunk of footage, and it doesn’t really add anything relevant to the plot at hand. Nonetheless, the developers decided to remove this angle entirely. It was for the best.
