5. Dysmantle
Out of everything on this list, Dysmantle somehow manages to compete with the more gigantic titles. Perhaps not mind-blowing in its scope, there's still something to be said about simplicity and taking a leap in a fresh direction. The bittersweet apocalypse of Dysmantle seems akin to that of Don’t Starve or Terraria.
The trailer, which is all we’ve got at the moment, showcases an almost chill vibe to the zombie apocalypse. Encouraging the player to explore, destroy, farm and fish throughout a beautiful hand-crafted world. The art draws me in instantly, being both colourful and flamboyant. The combat seems simple, with a variety of melee weapons to be swinging about. Beyond that, mysteries of forgotten beings have been teased, as well as an emphasis on crafting and building.
This is the kind of game I like to see encouraged. Regardless of the zombies, it’s a comfy game, something to chill with, a game to watch your favourite streamer play. With extensive RPG elements looking muddy at the moment, there's still plenty for 10tons to announce.
We could be seeing an assortment of skills, movement and customisation. This is, of course, on top of what you choose to make of the zombie apocalypse. Options such as scavenging for goods, farming, or building a base to become self-sufficient.
In an industry of big budgets and similar concepts, Dysmantle stands out from the crowd.
