8. Kai Leng - Mass Effect 3

Kai Leng is a weird anomaly in the Mass Effect universe. He comes out of nowhere in the third game, positioned as this ultra badass space ninja who's a danger to any and all of your squad mates. His threat level is established pretty early on, where he can either stab and wound Thane or shoot Major Kirrahe depending on your choices (and who's still around after the events of the second release).

After this he dogs Commander Shepard and the player at every turn, always being one step ahead and equipped to deal with whatever you throw at him. It's a bit cheap, to be honest, as the assassin is suddenly just there, with no real backstory and seemingly motivated by nothing more than to look cool while tearing down his enemies, and your friends, with a sword.

After constantly getting in your way, and nearly killing a bunch of your squad, you finally get to face him one on one. The fight ends with Shepard stabbing Leng with his omni-blade before letting out an incredibly satisfying "That was for Thane and Miranda, you son of a bitch."
