7. Mr X - Resident Evil 2

A lot of people, myself included, completely forgot that Mr. X was even in Resident Evil 2. After the recent remake though, it's guaranteed that nobody will be forgetting this big guy anytime soon. The franchise isn't a stranger to persistent enemies that can't be killed until a specific boss fight, but X might be the most intimidating one yet. Yep, even more so than Nemesis.

Every time the fashion-savvy bioweapon pops up - either in a horrifying silhouette down the corridor from you, or poking his head around the corner like the cheeky, hulking scamp that he is - you know you'll have to drop everything if you want to make it to your next objective without being punched into another dimension. Even if he doesn't kill you that much, his mere appearance is enough to get your heart racing, as is his thumping footsteps that let you know he's nearby.

Eventually, after hours of torment, you get the chance to go toe-to-toe with the big bad, inflicting plenty of pain with pistols, shotguns, magnums, flamethrowers and grenade launchers. Of course, he shrugs most of these off as mere flesh wounds, and it takes a rocket point-blank to the chest to take him out.
