3. David - The Last Of Us

Like a lot of the villains on this list, the conflict between the player and The Last of Us' David gets so personal because, initially, he seems like a trustworthy figure. While out hunting as a sick Joel remains bed-bound thanks to a severe case of being impaled through the stomach by a rebar, Ellie runs into David, who eases her worries about him being a bad dude and even helps her escape a group of infected.

Of course, it's then revealed that it was all a ploy, as Ellie and Joel killed David's men in the previous chapter. He kidnaps Ellie and locks her in a cell, before offering her the opportunity to join his camp. During his sales pitch, he touches her hand in a super creepy way, which completely overshadows his love of cannibalism as his most villainous trait.

Ellie manages to slip away before she's chopped up and fed to the camp, entering a game of cat and mouse with David while Joel rushes to her rescue. By the time he gets there it's too late, though, and he finds his surrogate daughter hysterically laying into the cannibal's face with a machete.

It feels great to see the creep go in such a violent way, but it doesn't feel too triumphant when you know Ellie has lost whatever innocence she had left.
