10 More Infuriating Video Game Levels You Forgot You Hated
7. Shooting The Asteroids - Dead Space
Dead Space is an intense but mostly manageable sci-fi survival horror game, where the scariest thing isn't a Necromorph attack but that damn asteroid-shooting mini-game in the fourth chapter, "Obliteration Imminent."
Though you're only forced to fire away at a fleet of incoming asteroids for all of about two minutes, nailing all of the incoming targets is much trickier than it looks, and so it's highly likely your first dozen attempts will end with the ship's hull destroyed, forcing you to restart.
It's proven tricky enough that some players have resorted to cranking the game's brightness to max in order to get a better look at the incoming projectiles.
It's not only deceptively difficult but also represents a major, totally un-asked-for break from the infinitely more compelling shoot-and-stomp gameplay that defines the rest of Dead Space.
With the remake currently pencilled in for an early 2023 release, hopefully EA have listened to the vocal feedback over the last 14 (!) years and will rework the mini-game to be more fun (or, as few will protest, just remove it altogether).
