8. Catalina
One of the potential love interests that players can encounter across their time in Rockstar's games, Catalina certainly offers players a unique look at an in-game romantic involvement. First appearing in GTA:III and then being granted an origin story in San Andreas, Catalina is among the most unhinged lunatics in a world inhabited mostly by lunatics. Catalina is an absolute psychopath; as an enemy in GTA:III she offers players fairly satisfying opposition as the compulsion to kill her is well motivated by a desire to just shut her up. As a romantic partner for brief spells, however, she is infuriating to be around. Her constant phone calls and absurd demands on poor, unwilling CJ serving as likely reminders to players of their own moody, nagging partners that they play games to get some form of respite from. Catalina's ability to annoy comes in large part from this. An unfortunate majority of San Andreas' players will have had some experience of an equally demanding, though hopefully less psychotic, romantic partner at some point in their life. And aren't video games about escaping from problems like Catalina?
