7. Thief
Cheating a little bit here as this one may not see release until next year but as far as classic reboots go, the upcoming revival of the Thief series has set the standard pretty high. This seems to be a double-edged sword because living up to the original may prove to be a difficult task. All that pressure seems to be hitting publisher of the upcoming game, Square Enix, hard. Additionally, there were reportedly many setbacks in the development side of the game, as too many creative differences and office politics caused a lot of departures from the developer studio, Eidos Montréal. Hopefully though, all the hullabaloo doesn't take away the quality of the game. If we could make Thief a Batman villain, it would definitely be The Riddler. Simply because, the game is quite an enigma. As of now, very little is known about it and even though a gameplay demo was shown at the Game Developers Conference in March, the plan to make it public was scratched due to fear that the gameplay was shabby. This is despite the fact that the game was indeed applauded for its impressive graphics and technical developments. Much like anticipating a new iPhone though, the mystery surrounding its details has piqued the interest of many, and I think the slated E3 reveal will deliver. A look at the trailer reveals that the game will follow a similar plot-line and gameplay (albeit improved) to the originals. Picking locks, deadly sword-fights and the classic compound bow all make a comeback in the reboot, along with the usual arsenal which allow him to be as stealthy as Agent 47 himself. Also, it seems that the game has a bioshock-esque feel to it, in the sense that it operates via a first-person camera, with Garrett's hands looking fantastic as ever. Even though the game has run over far too many pot-holes whilst in development, I think the underdog has got itself a future hit right there. Thief will be released on PS4, X1 and PCs.
