5. Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag
When you have Blackbeard as your wingman, you know you're going to have a fun time! Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed series revolutionised 3D platform games; something previously observed with the now defunct Prince of Persia series. This revolution shot Assassin's Creed games into fame...and for a good reason. Even though some games in the series were more enjoyable than others, the overall dynamics of the game makes it simply irresistible. No one in their right mind will find jumping off rooftops and silently picking off guards with a silent blade boring. The latest installment in the series promises to be bigger and better than its predecessors. The plot revolves around the previous protagonists' (Connor AKA Ratonhnhaké:ton) grandfather, Edward Kenway. He plays a notorious pirate and privateer who lived during the Golden Age of Piracy. The side story of Desmond in modern-day context is slightly unclear (when was it not?), but we do know that his memories are now stored on 'The Cloud'. This probably means a return of Desmond's character or at the very least the age-old fight with Abstergo making an appearance again. The location is set in the Caribbean and the gameplay is a mix of Assassins Creed 3 and previous installments, pitching together open-sea and land explorations on numerous Caribbean Islands. The jungle and underwater exploration seem to be one of the more exciting new upgrades to the game. Graphics this time around seem to be taking a huge step up. The Assassin's Creed games usually do look good and feel realistic, but thanks to the PS4 and X1, we can expect jungles to look lush and feel alive. If the world premeire is anything to go by, this game definitely deserves a spot on this list. Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag is due for release on the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U and PCs on 29th October 2013-1st November 2013, depending on your region. PS4 and X1 versions have been confirmed to be in the works, although a release date has not yet been specified. If I was going to be forking out a premuim for a next-gen console though, I think this game would be worth the wait.
