10 Most Brutally Difficult Opening Levels In Video Games

7. Temple Of Trials - Fallout 2

Temple of Trials, how hard can it be? They're only 'trials' after all, and the name of the place is just short of being an anagram of 'tutorial', so that must count for something... or maybe not.

Fallout 2 was an incredible game, but it existed in a PC gaming era before user-friendliness was really a thing. As such, creating your character a certain way could potentially make this level almost impossible to complete.

Don't put any points into melee or lockpicking, for example, and you'll struggle to get past the rad-ants and the locked doors, while traps are ever-present and waiting to spring on impetuous adventurers.

Granted, if you've created a silver-tongued someone then you can sweet-talk your way past the guard at the end, but all of this requires attributes that you have no clue about before jumping into the game!

90s games just didn't give a sh*t, did they?
