10 Most Criminally Underrated Video Games Of 2018 (So Far)
1. A Way Out
It's easy to take one look at a cutscene in A Way Out and laugh your a** off. The acting is shlocky as hell, its characters are pretty one-dimensional and gameplay isn't anywhere near as refined as the bigger genres it pulls from.
But all of this completely misses the point. A Way Out is the only game to force you into playing the whole thing in split-screen co-op - a perfect setup for friends and partners to buddy up and see such a unique premise through.
Of course, this impacts gameplay and set-pieces in the best ways. A Way Out is pegged as a prisoner breakout story, but it's much more than that. Things like following two players through intricate escape set-pieces are nerve-wracking and memorable, but tactical shootouts, catching one another when climbing, rowing a boat together or playing arcade machines against one another are all great uses of this split-screen premise.
Every single part of what would otherwise be a traditional action game has been reimagined with dual perspectives and dual control schemes in mind.
Creative Director Josef Fares even wrote a fantastic, Hollywood-esque script that throws one hell of a twist at you towards the end, making for a finale that deserves to be seen by as many people as possible.
