10 Most Disturbing Sci-Fi Video Games You'll Ever Play

8. The Way Remastered

Puzzling Dream

The Way Remastered on Switch is one of the most devastating, excruciating, and downright disturbing games you'll ever play.

However, that most of the aforementioned emotions will be stirred in the player during the game's opening sequence does not detract from the title's overall ability to get under your skin.

Before we get onto that, however...

Presented in a way reminiscent of Another World and Flashback, the game's minimalistic style coupled with some truly atmospheric music make for a game which constantly tugs at the player's heart strings.

An action platformer with switch-flicking puzzle segments, the gameplay is instantly familiar.

The Way Remastered also has one of the most realistic falling mechanics in gaming, with a sickening 'thud' accompanying a fall from any modest height, instantly killing the player.

So the intro, then...

The game begins with the character exhuming his Wife's body from a dark, rainy cemetery, proceeding to carry her shrouded corpse slowly back to his ship, believing he has found the key to resurrecting his deceased love.

The simple visuals, the music, the atmosphere, the context... In this instance the term "disturbing" does not apply to fear or dread, but describes the desperate actions of a heartbroken man.
