10 Most Disturbing Sci-Fi Video Games You'll Ever Play

7. Hollow

Hollow is at once a familiar and yet very different type of game.

Whilst it may at first glance seem like just another 'abandoned space station' title, there are things which set Hollow apart from many of its peers.

The player, as an unnamed pilot who wakes up on the mining ship Shakhter One with no memory of who he is, must explore this huge vessel and piece together a narrative.

Whilst wandering the dark, dank, blood-spattered corridors, messages start coming through via emails and hand written notes from parties unknown, instructing the player on how best to proceed.

What marks Hollow out as a truly disturbing title, however, is the presentation.

The character movement is slow, which makes proceeding all the more terrifying as the tension ramps up.

The film grain effect is excellent and definitely adds to the sense of dread and tension the game builds in spades, especially during chaotic enemy encounters.

Speaking of enemies, this is where Hollow truly shines.

Sitting somewhere between angels and insects (no, not the Papa Roach song), the enemies are both perverse and oddly seraphic at once, which is a recipe for nightmares in and of itself.

Hollow is by no means a great game, but boy is it unnerving.
