10 Most Essential Nintendo Switch Games (So Far)
7. Puyo-Puyo Tetris
Speaking of puzzle games, why release one when you can combine two?
Actually developed by Sega's Sonic Team, Puyo-Puyo Tetris lets you either play either of the iconic games individually, or - best of all - blend the two into a phenomenally addictive hybrid. You'll still connect four or more Puyos and clear Tetronimo lines, but the key is triggering these actions when the game's countdown is about to flip the active game mode.
This means your various planned chains now pop off in the background, messing with the opposition by filling up their column and guaranteeing the win. Best of all - and like Snipperclips, it requires a bit of mental gymnastics - you can play both games at once, reading the board in the background in tandem with what's active, essentially introducing an entirely new mechanic to these iconic, timeless video games.
A hint of what's to come with other hybrid puzzle games? Perhaps.
