10 Most Essential Nintendo Switch Games (So Far)

6. Cave Story +

Though the original Cave Story was a jaw-dropping achievement developed by one-man powerhouse Daisuke Amaya back in 2004, Cave Story + - the remastered overhaul with various new features, tweaks and an all-new presentation - is by far the one you've been waiting for.

Exclusive to Switch in the console space, CS+ sees its original chiptune soundtrack and pixellated graphics re-recorded and smoothed over respectively (optionally, of course), with new modes like a boss rush, alternate character story and even "seasonal graphics" outfitting the dungeons' aesthetic depending on when you're playing.

All-round you can tell Daisuke 'Pixel' Amaya had a love for Metroid and Earthbound, with a side of almost Final Fantasy-levels of character development complimenting Cave Story's wondrously self-aware sense of humour. Every area, storyline, weapon and quest are just plain fun (not to mention surprisingly mature in spots), solidifying CS+ as one of the most essential cult classics in gaming history.
