6. Persona 5

Speaking of coming together perfectly, Persona 5 is another game that excels in painting a picture comprised of solid gameplay mechanics and in-depth social circle-management. Casting you as a custom-named hero landing in Tokyo, immediately you'll be beset by demonic visions of what appears to be another realm full of creatures and freakish alternate personalities of those close by.

Turns out, this is the Metaverse, and it's up to you and your band of merry teenage pals to walk the thin line between real-world responsibilities (a part-time job, studying, making friends, dating and other activities) and the thwarting of otherwordly demons. The best part comes through 'Palaces'; Metaverse-located manifestations of a given person's darkest desires; leading your team on a crime-busting narrative as you attempt to defeat the worst parts of people like abusive sports coaches or manipulative banker-types.

Persona has always had this duality in its design, but P5 is by far the most stylish of the bunch. Everything from the funky soundtrack to the menu transitions, combat animations and character designs in the Metaverse itself are spectacular, proving there's more to wowing visually than just pure rendering power.
