3. Nemesis - Horizon: Forbidden West

You could argue that all of the game world in both Horizon games has been effectively ravaged by evil artificial intelligence. But to see who is really to blame we need to trace it all back.

Sure, HADES is the big AI bad of Horizon: Zero Dawn, what with its extinction protocol designed to make Earth uninhabitable, but HADES answers to someone else.

That someone else, we learn, is Nemesis. A corrupted AI accidentally created by Far Zenith when they were trying to form a digital database of their consciousnesses. As we’ve learned by this point in the list, never a great idea. Nemesis sent the signal to Earth activating HADES, and essentially causing the majority of the problems that Aloy ends up having to deal with throughout her journey. But first it turned on its masters.

Again, they really do tend to do that.

Unhappy with being an amalgamation of a bunch of annoying Zenith uploads, it killed them off in various sadistic ways, leaving only 13 alive who managed to flee its wrath. They arrived on Earth and so Nemesis turned its attention to decimating the planet creating a pretty enormous problem for our heroes to deal with.
