5. Murder The Rescue Team - Spec Ops: The Line
Gentlemen, welcome to Dubai.
You play as Lieutenant Martin Walker. Alongside your companions in Delta Squad, you must traverse a destroyed Dubai to track down the 33rd Infantry Battalion, led by Colonel John Konrad, who went rogue by defying orders and staying behind to try and save the civilians there.
With the 33rd having gone rogue, the CIA trying to cover up the USA's involvement and an uprising by the Dubai natives, Delta Squad are trapped in the middle, though their actions become more questionable as the plot progresses.
From executing unarmed prisoners to destroying Dubai's only water supply to dropping white phosphorous on a group of civilians, Walker seems to be becoming more and more unhinged as the story reaches its climax.
After finally finding Konrad, the player discovers that the Colonel has been dead this whole time, and it was, in fact, Walker that has been suffering from PTSD and perpetrating war crimes. If you don't kill yourself, you are found by a US military patrol and are presented with three options.
One of which is to cave into your own madness and kill the entire patrol, despite another option being to surrender peacefully and return home. A fantastic game for anyone looking for a military shooter that analyses the effect war has on a damaged human psyche.
