Few figures have captured the wickedness of betrayal in Rockstar's most beloved game series more than Dimitri Rascalov. In GTA IV, he seemingly makes it his top priority in life to mess with protagonist Niko Bellic as much as possible.

The wringers Rascalov puts Bellic through include having his apartment and taxi depot set ablaze, kidnapping his cousin Roman, and attempting to have Niko whacked time and time again. When players make it to the end of the game's plot, they're faced with a choice when it comes to Dimitri:

Either murder the nefarious Russian mobster or agree to a deal with him.

For the more merciful players out there who opt for a deal, Rascalov's worst betrayal yet is waiting in the wings. Rather than just move on, Rascalov triggers Roman's death as a final gut punch for Niko before the credits roll. It's a frustrating, tragic turn of events that rounds the game off on a dark note. However, even for players who give the no-good Dimitri what he deserves, Rockstar have an alternative tragic death scene of someone close to Niko lined up.

There really is just no winning sometimes.
