10 Most Frustrating Spells For Dungeon Masters

9. Polymorph

Make no mistake: Polymorph is an absolutely terrific spell. With this spell, an individual can change themselves, an ally, or even an enemy to a particular beast for an hour. Thinking of things in this capacity, Polymorph's reliability in non-combat situations is incredible.

Looking to conduct reconnaissance as a harmless fly that doesn't draw attention, or turning into a cockroach that's too light to trigger traps down a particularly nasty corridor, and Polymorph can be an amazing and versatile asset.

However, too often this spell devolves into turning allies into one of two creatures: a Giant Ape or a Dinosaur, typically a T-Rex. Both of these both deal and absorb a great deal of damage and...that's it.

Conversely, because the spell is so good and available to so many, players can pile onto a big bad in order to force them to make save after save until they ultimately fail and take them out of the fight by turning them into something harmless for an hour.

Ultimately, while it is typically an amazing ability, it tends to only have a handful of ways parties tend to implement it, which sadly limits the group overall.
