10 Most Frustrating Spells For Dungeon Masters

8. Suggestion

Mind magics can be some of the potent in Dungeons and Dragons. Being able to coerce or command people or creatures to act at your discretion can completely upend an encounter towards the party's advantage. However, one might expect doing so to be a difficult task, given the potency of the impact. Suggestion packs a massive psychic punch for an incredibly low cost.

The primary issue stems from the vagueness of the spell's description. The caster can say a couple sentences, rationalizing a course of action for an individual to take. Then, if they fail a save, they simply do it. Not only that, but it lasts for up to 8 hours!

For the cost of a 2nd level spell, players can boss someone around for a full day. Now granted, victims of the spell cannot be told to do anything obviously harmful, but the open-ended nature of the spell leans in favor of game-breaking suggestions.

After all, maybe its a good idea to give the players that super-rare magical item? Or perhaps allowing them access into a forbidden area they shouldn't discover until far later in the narrative? Suggestion's potential to completely ruin a game in the hands of irresponsible players cannot be overlooked.
