This pixilated piece of history is widely recognized as the first cheat code in the history of gaming. It's more of an easter egg than cheat, however. A number of wildly complicated twists and turns into secret passageways lead to the unveiling of a secret message from the game's developers. While the cheat doesn't provide an advantage to players, many gaming historians maintain that without this little bit of whimsical programming humour, the cheats known and loved today might never have existed. As is the case with so many of the great things about gaming, Atari can be thanked for cheat codes.
