From the very first mention, you know the Master Sword is going to be an awesome weapon. Even the name alone makes it better than most video game swords; how many have the audacity to name themselves Master of all swords? Through a powerful legacy, the Master Sword has become synonymous with the Legend of Zelda and it's hero Link, despite not featuring in every game. Much of the Sword's popularity stems from it's role in the sublime Ocarina Of Time. Not only is it the most powerful weapon in the game, it also allows the player to travel through time; removing the sword from it's pedestal moves the game's timeline forward by seven years, aging Link and Hyrule to create a very different world. The build-up to this first scene is amazingly well done and it definitely imprints the Master Sword's power and value upon the player. Of course, the Master Sword makes equally impressive appearances in other Zelda games. Lately, most notably in the Wind Waker and Skyward Sword, Link must journey to restore the Master Sword to full power, making the acquisition of the Sword even more rewarding. It's this sense of scope and adventure which has made the Legend Of Zelda such a phenomenally loved series and the power and mystique of the Master Sword has more than helped the series in that regard.
