10 Most Infuriating Unresolved Video Game Cliffhangers
8. The Darkness 2
The Darkness was one of the earliest games available for the PS3, and while it hasn't aged well it was an ambitious, sprawling action game with great characters. One of the most memorable aspects was the sweet relationship between the hero and his girlfriend Jenny, and it even gives the player the option to just hang out with her.
So when you watch her being executed, it has a hell of a lot of weight.
The sequel has the hero being haunted by memories of her, and the ending has Jackie travel to hell (long story) to rescue her. They're happily reunited for a moment, only for Jenny to be revealed as the host of The Angelus, the mortal enemy of The Darkness. So the heartbroken hero is left stranded in Hell by The Angelus, and is left screaming in frustration and heartbreak. Despite being a solid game The Darkness 2 didn't set the charts on fire, and despite ending on a whopper of a cliffhanger there's virtually no chance of The Darkness 3 to conclude things.
