10 Most Insane Video Game Leaks Ever
7. Super Smash Bros. 4's Entire Roster Leaked Weeks Before Release
The Super Smash Bros. games are some of the most closely-guarded in the entire industry, especially when it pertains to the beat 'em up series' roster, which is always a subject of huge speculation and anticipation among fans.
So jaws were collectively dropped, then, when the entire roster for Smash 4 (aka Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3Ds and Wii U) was leaked on 4chan several weeks before the game's September 2014 release.
How did this happen to the water-tight Nintendo of all companies? Well, it appears that someone snapped screenshots of the 3DS copy of the game sent to the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) for content evaluation.
The leak not only detailed all the base fighters both new and old, but gave away many of the game's stages.
Fans were so gobsmacked by the leak, however, that many simply refused to accept it was real, calling the images out as Photoshops, even as Nintendo aggressively slammed the offending images with copyright claims wherever they were posted.
Ultimately the leaks were vindicated, however, when some players managed to get their hands on early copies of the game in the days before its release, quickly revealing everything shown in the leaks to be totally true.
