10 Most Memorable GTA Missions: Ranked Worst To Best
6. The Exchange - GTA III
Everyone who played through Grand Theft Auto III all the way to the end remembers completing it for the first time, especially because the final mission finally pits silent protagonist Claude against his loudmouthed backstabbing ex-girlfriend Catalina. She also has his new love interest Maria in tow as well, complicating matters even further.
Before you can get to her though, she escapes in a helicopter, forcing you to chase her down to Cochrane Dam, where you then have to cut your way through an army of cartel members. This means all out assault, and you have to be careful, as these enemies are more than capable of putting you down. There's plenty of shooting and chasing to satisfy, and it culminates in you putting a rocker launcher into the chopper carrying Catalina, officially ending the relationship between these two scorned lovers.
This mission was a strong way to finish what ended up being the biggest game on the PS2. It's challenging without being too frustrating, and the open environments make for an at the time visually compelling firefight. The Exchange isn't quite up there with the best the GTA series has to offer, but it set the standard for the final missions of future GTA games, and deserves to be acknowledged as such.
