10 Most Memorable Side-Quests In RPG Game History

8. Fallout 3 - Oasis

When players first stepped out of Vault 101, everyone was in awe at the sight of Fallout 3's desolate Capital Wasteland. But tucked away beneath the crumbled buildings and dead trees is Oasis, a thriving tropical haven that stands in complete contrast to the wasteland in which the trees are green and the water is clear. It is also the place for one of Fallout 3's more memorable side-quests. Oasis is the result of none other than our friendly mutant, Harold, from Fallout 1 and 2. After being rooted to the spot for years and spreading out his, uh, seed, through the wasteland, he just wants to die peacefully. However, 1/2 of Oasis' residents want the seeds spread quicker in an attempt to revitalize the wasteland whilst the other 1/2 of Oasis' residents want to keep the seeds to themselves. It is up to the Lone Wanderer to decide what is best for Oasis, Harold, the Capital Wasteland, and for themselves. What makes this quest great is not only the stakes are surprisingly high for what should be a simple side-mission, but players are reintroduced to Harold and his unintentionally funny demeanor. This provides a welcome link to the first 2 Interplay-developed Fallout games whilst proving that the Fallout franchise is in Bethesda's good hands.

My life story is nothing special. I haven't cured ebola, I'm nowhere near stopping terrorism, and I'm still working on that climate change problem. Instead, all I've done so far is put a few hundred words together in an attempt to make people laugh. You can follow me at @Fry_ying_pan but don't be offended if I don't tweet back. It's usually because I've spent too long trying to think up a witty response that the reply window has closed.
