10 Most Nostalgic Video Game Secrets

4. Déjà Vu - Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes

The Metal Gear Solid games have always been known for their depth of content and MGS V and its prequel, Ground Zeroes, is no different. In fact, there’s one particular mission that itself is bursting at the seams with references and details.

Collecting the game's XOF patches unlocks a special Extra Ops mission called "Déjà Vu" that was originally only available on the PlayStation version of the game, just to denote how special and exclusive it was. It’s not really clear why Snake would need to recreate a bunch of photographs that he’s been sent but long-time Metal Gear fans will have too much fun to care.

Each photo that the player is tasked with recreating is a homage to a scene in the original game, including sneaking past the helipad from the opening scenes to the final moments of the car-chase with Liquid Snake. It’s all very much a love letter to the first Metal Gear Solid title, complete with audio re-recordings and references to conversations that fans will remember fondly.

The whole thing actually gets even better if you’re wearing the unlockable Classic Snake costume; unlocking even further details like turning the generic prisoners into Anderson and Baker from MGS1.

It was an appropriately reflective affair considering that the MGS V project was the final game in the series original director Hideo Kojima would work on.
