10 Most Out-Of-Place Scenes In Video Games

1. Giygas - Earthbound

Earthbound is trippy from beginning to end. Throughout this underrated RPG, Ness battles sign posts, New Age retro hippies, and sentient vomit. You encounter so many bizarre creatures, you get desensitised to it after a while. When a martial artist called Poo joins your team, it barely registers how ridiculous his name is.

After you think you've experience every oddity the game has to offer, the final section catches the player completely off-guard. To face the final boss, Giygas the Cosmic Destroyer, Ness and his party must transfer their souls into robots. (That's not the weird part.) When you confront Giygas, he's contained inside a device shaped like a woman's cervix. (It's so anatomically precise, you'd be impressed if you weren't freaking out by this point.)

However, Giygas himself is, by far, the mot disturbing part of Earthbound. His true form is a screaming face, with the silhouette of a foetus in the background. Although most players don't pick up on it upon their first encounter, the final battle has our heroes entering an alien womb and fighting a cosmic baby.

Because of Earthbound's silly humour and cutesy aesthetic, this deeply unsettling climax, although epic, feels incredibly out of place.
