3. Darth Vader Is A Scorpion - Star Wars

Namco

For many gamers growing up in the early 1990s, Star Wars for the NES was the first game they played based on George Lucas' iconic franchise.

However, few people in the West knew Namco developed a Star Wars game on the NES, released exclusively in Japan. Although this version follows Star Wars' lore pretty accurately, there is one element that clashes with everything else.

At the end of the first level, Luke Skywalker is confronted by his father (spoilers), Darth Vader. But as soon as you strike him, the Sith transforms into a scorpion. (In case you haven't seen the movies in a while, Vader can't do this.)

This moment is so weird, some players believe this platformer started off as a different game, and was reworked into a Star Wars property at the last minute. Even though this fan-theory is false, it sounds pretty believable. After all, why would Vader turn into a scorpion!?

According to manual, this fake Vader, as well as the other bosses are "intended as illusions representing Luke's fears". However, this doesn't make sense since these so-called illusions kidnapped Luke's allies throughout the game! How can these bosses capture people if they aren't real?
