10 Most Over Powered Power-Ups In Super Mario History

3. Cape Feather

The Cape Feather is probably the most iconic power up from Super Mario World, with almost every image of Mario in posters and trailers portraying him with a reddy-yellow cape behind him. It replaces the Fire Flower as the most common power up in the game, and it's clear to see why when its powers are explained.

As with most other items, Mario or Luigi can pick up a Feather from Question Mark Blocks though the power up, the cape aside, doesn't change the player's appearance a whole lot. This cape however is enough for players to take flight and begin hovering, once they have amassed enough speed in a straight line.

Not only does this hovering allow for more precise platforming and some sharp dives down onto the enemies below, but it also unlocks one of the most broken mechanics in Mario history.

By toggling the control pad forwards and backwards fast enough, players are able to manipulate the Cape's mechanics in such a way that they are easily able to coast through and skip over entire levels at a time.
