10 Most Overlooked Nintendo Games Ever
3. The Mysterious Murasame Castle
A Japanese exclusive at launch, it wasn’t until 2014 that The Mysterious Murasame Castle was finally localised for a Western audience through the 3DS Virtual Console, 28 years after its NES debut.
Set within the Edo Period, Murasame Castle becomes invaded by an alien creature which fell from the sky, residing within the castle’s huge stone statue, Murasame. Extending its power to conquer four neighbouring castles, the resident lords fall to this alien evil and become possessed.
Upon hearing these strange reports, the Tokugawa Shogunate send a samurai apprentice, Takamaru, to investigate further and defeat each lord. Armed with only shurikens and a katana, it’s a fun action-adventure title that’s still worth your time today. It never saw a sequel but Takamaru has continued to cameo in other Nintendo games, most notably as an assist trophy within Super Smash Bros.
