10 Most Promising New Video Game IPs Coming In 2016
4. Kingdom Come: Deliverance (PC, PS4, XBO)
A bit of a dark horse in this list because of its technical status as an indie game, Kingdom Come's $5 million budget ($2m of which was raised on Kickstarter) pretty much elevates it to 'mainstream' status. This ambitious RPG throws you into the medieval kingdom of Bohemia during the Papal Schism, when the Catholic Church split between the east and west and the region is on the brink of war. You control a blacksmith's son out for revenge for the murder of his family. As you embark on your quest to deliver a bladed form of justice, you'll be able to fully explore the open world, picking up side-quests, engaging in large-scale historical battles, and honing your skills at the unforgivingly realistic sword combat. The deep combat mechanics are physics-based, taking into account fine details such as the weight of your weapon, the speed with which you swing it, and how armour can deflect your blows. The uniquely realistic angle of this RPG is enhanced by a system of needs, which will require you to sleep and eat to remain fighting fit, clean your clothes, and hone skills such as fishing and alcohol distillation. Kingdom Come is already scheduled for a sequel, and could be one of the best new RPGs to become a force in the coming years. For those of you pining for the days when RPGs doubled as gruelling survival experiences, this game could be exactly what you've been waiting for.
