7. Hollow Knight

Available on PC and Mac already, Hollow Knight's only planned console release is on Switch - and to be honest, that's more than perfect. See, Team Cherry have essentially taken all the best lessons learned from Dark Souls' macabre tonality, and matched them with a Metroidvania progression.

Take one look at a Hollow Knight screenshot and you might think you've figured it out - rather like how Salt & Sanctuary was literally a 2D Souls clone - but look closer and pick up a pad, and you'll discover something that's sinisterly difficulty, with payoffs that come just as much from exploration as combat.

It doesn't hurt that HK's art direction is slap-bang between cute and gothic, either. Each new item, spell and moment passed draws you in, and simply due to the scale with which the world is rendered against your tiny, hopeful Knight going about his business, it's one hell of an epic quest worth undertaking.
