10 Most Replayable Opening Sequences In Video Game History

4. Mass Effect 2

Mass Effect 2 is perhaps the only game that manages to kill off its main character in a way that's so tragic that BioWare shooting Winnie The Pooh point-blank in the face would have been a preferred alternative. When the Normandy is caught off-guard by a surprise attack, Joker's ninja reflexes aren't enough to prevent his beloved ship from suffering fatal damage. Crew members are lost in the ensuing carnage and just when it looks like there's no hope left, Shepard swoops in to save the day. Sadly there are some battles that can't be won (even when you have the power to change people's moral outlook with a concisely-worded sentence or two) and Shepard ends up slowly suffocating to death outside the ship. Mass Effect 2's opening moments are extremely gripping and heart-breaking for anyone that spent dozens of hours in the first Mass Effect getting to know everyone aboard the Normandy. There are few games that start with such an emotional rollercoaster.

When I'm not playing games, I'm probably either writing about them somewhere or singing stupid songs inspired by them. Or eating pizza.
