10 Most Replayable Opening Sequences In Video Game History

3. Resident Evil 4

Resident Evil 4 is a game that broke away from the traditions of Capcom's survival-horror franchise. It ditched the brainless zombies in favour of the more smarter Las Plagas and prioritised exchilarating action sequences over brain scratching, cryptic puzzles. Nothing proves this more than its opening sequence, which throws players in the deep end straight off the bat by making them fight an entire village of enemies simultaneously. The chainsaw-wielding psychopath that seems intent on adding Leon's noggin to his severed head collection doesn't exactly make things easier, either. Just bear in mind that before this Leon has only encountered a few enemies. There's no tutorial, nor is there a marker that points to location of the shotgun and grenade that makes surviving a hell of a lot easier. It's a test of skill, strategic thinking and reflexes that takes a brutal, sink-or-swim approach to teaching players the basics.

When I'm not playing games, I'm probably either writing about them somewhere or singing stupid songs inspired by them. Or eating pizza.
