10 Most Satisfying Final Boss Kills In Gaming History
9. Spider Mastermind - DOOM (2016)
On the flip-side to a game where you'll have to steel your sanity to keep going, DOOM's 2016 reboot introduced an element of "combat chess" to the glorious arena shooting on show.
By tying things like glory kill finishers to health, chainsaw attacks to ammo and level exploration to power-ups per fight, suddenly you were thinking about every arena of enemies in a whole new way.
It helped remind people why iD Software are one of the best FPS developers working today, revitalised the franchise, and allowed the team to write a meta-narrative where DOOMguy wants to rip and tear for the fun of it, because he's sick of everyone pretending otherwise.
DOOM is therefore stellar, but once you get your hands on the fabled "Big F'ing Gun" - here called the BFG-9000 - you're practically firing a miniature nuclear energy mote across the battlefield.
The BFG pulsates and vibrates with power - it even gets its own dedicated face button to add to combat. The second you open Spider Mastermind up for a finishing kill, burying this thing in its face and parting the seas of its brains like a gorehound Moses... was just excellent.
