10 Most Shocking Moments In Mortal Kombat History

7. Raiden Agrees To Sell Souls To Quan Chi

Raiden may have done some questionable things throughout the series but he is usually perceived as a noble and just deity. But as EarthRealm faced greater threats, he was forced to compromise his nobility and honour.

In the 2011 version of Mortal Kombat, Raiden receives a message from his future self, stating that he must carry out a series of specific actions to ensure the security of the Realms. Although Raiden does his best, every decision he makes seems to make things worse. After Shao Kahn invades EarthRealm and Sindel kills most of the world's champions, Raiden becomes desperate.

He ventures to the NetherRealm and confronts Shinnok's advisor, Quan Chi, and demands an allegiance. When he refuses, Raiden panics and attempts to bribe the insidious sorcerer with the souls of his fallen comrades. Quan Chi erupts into laughter at this offer, not just because he has already obtained these souls but because he has witnessed Raiden's descent into evil firsthand.

The god of thunder believed his actions were for the greater good but it was still shocking to see Earth's protector do something so profoundly immoral.
