10 Most Shocking Roster Picks In WWE Games

9. Gangrel (WWE ‘13)

Gangrel is definitely one of the strangest Superstars to grace a WWE ring. Debuting August 16th, 1998 on Sunday Night Heat, he was a Medieval Vampire, entering the arena through a ring of fire carrying a goblet of, presumably, blood. Alongside Edge and Christian, he also formed a gothic faction named the Brood (and later tried to start another vampire faction that was scuppered by his weight issues).

Though the game's Attitude Era mode unlocked the most prominent Superstars during the era, the DLC provided less celebrated Superstars, including Gangrel. Interestingly, whenever WWE ‘13 is loaded up with Gangrel installed, you will see a copyright notice on the load screen specifically for this superstar.

This was because WWE didn’t, and still don’t, actually own the name Gangrel. It was owned by a company named White Wolf, and leased to WWE for presumably a hefty price. On Raw’s 15th Anniversary, Gangrel returned without WWE having the rights to him, and the company was sued for several million dollars.

Although he was a very recognizable character, it is surprising that WWE put the money and effort into acquiring the rights to Gangrel, just for the sake of a 70p DLC.

Fred hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here. Maybe. It might be over there. We're not really sure.
