8. Eclipse - Horizon Zero Dawn (2017)
A post-apocalyptic Earth was never going to be complete without the odd nihilistic nutcase running around. And, as luck would have it, Horizon Zero Dawn has them in spades.
The tribes of the future, despite their pride, are clearly quite impressionable when it comes to the technology of the Old Ones - and certainly naïve. When a manipulative stranger gave a violent splinter tribe a taste of real power, the cult of wannabe usurpers, Eclipse, was born.
They worship HADES, a malevolent AI from the Old World that was responsible for humanity's extinction centuries ago. Believing him to be the Devil, the Eclipse do his bidding without question, unaware that their efforts will eventually bring about another mass genocide by the machines.
As such, the heavily armed faction dig up ancient metal monsters and deploy them all over the land, where they are quite able to level entire villages - which they do, until Aloy takes a one-woman stand against this despicable cult and buries them for good.
