10 Most Successful Crowdfunded Video Games Of All Time

10. Broken Age

Double Fine

Announced in 2012 with an initial Kickstarter funding goal of $400,000, which at the time was the largest amount ever requested for a video game on the website, Double Fine's point-and-click adventure title Broken Age hit its target a mere nine hours after the project went live. Eventually, it topped out to the tune of $3.3 million a month or so later, giving backers hope that the success would result in a title that would be just as good as Tim Schafer's other legendary work.

Unfortunately, while the game did gain a lot of money for its production, the new-found ambition of the release in the wake of its success led to a troubled development process. Extending their scope far outside the reality of what the money would allow them to do, the studio all but too late had to scale the project back, resulting in a title that reviewed pretty well, but left a good chunk of the fanbase a bit miffed.

Still, it was a solid game overall, and proved to be another enjoyable entry in Double Fine's library - even if the unprecedented success of the Kickstarter did lead some players to expect a bit more.
