10 Most Successful Crowdfunded Video Games Of All Time

3. Bloodstained: Ritual Of The Night

Unlike some of the other entries on this list, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night was announced with a rather small funding goal. Wanting a mere $500,000 to create a spiritual successor to the side-scrolling Castlevania series - headed up by none other than Koji Igarashi, who oversaw the franchise for nine years - the drive was an unprecedented success, setting a Kickstarter record by earning $5.5 million in pledges.

Originally anticipated as a 2017 release, the title has been pushed back as it increased in scope - both in terms of gameplay as well as the amount of systems it will be coming to, with a Nintendo Switch release recently being confirmed - however it seems as though it's on track to hit every platform before 2018 is out.

Although Might No. 9, a spiritual successor to another beloved franchise led by its original creator, turned out to be incredibly disappointing, nothing about Ritual of the Night has given fans cause for concern so far. It looks beautiful, and as long as it's half as good as the gameplay trailers so far, should manage to avoid being thrown on the fire along with the heap of other underwhelming Kickstarter games.
