10 Most Terrifying Enemies In The Fallout Franchise

9. Robobrains

The Robobrain represents another horrible existence for humans after death. Created as a joint project of just about every tech company ever mentioned in Fallout, as well as the military, Robobrains are the ultimate in cyborg warfare - large, tracked barrel-shaped robots with a human brain in a glass dome.

These brains weren't given willingly, which should be no shock to anyone familiar with Fallout's dark history and humour.

Test brains were taken from prisoners who showed high intelligence, aptitude for combat, and who were strong enough to survive being de-brained. Basically, brains and spinal column were extracted through the top of the skull, put into a jar full of bio-gel. and plugged into a robot combat chassis.

Although in theory the brain's memories and personalities were removed, game dialogue and terminal entries reveal that many of the subjects knew what was happening. Some of them were happy to have a powerful new body while others, understandably, became hysterical and had to be terminated.

While not especially hard to kill, the concept of the Robobrain is horrifying; much like with later entries Trauma Harnesses and Ghost People the idea of being eternally trapped in a machine with no way to escape except being blasted to pieces is the stuff of nightmares.
