2014 survival horror game The Forest puts you in the shoes of plane-crash victim Eric within a tree-laden peninsula. You’ll have to find yourself food, build shelter, oh and avoid a variety of cannibalistic mutants. Though there is some doubt over whether the cannibals are the bad guys or if you just invaded their territory, the further in you get the more irksome the mutants become. Perhaps the freakiest of all are Virginias, really bloody weird looking things with 6 legs, claw-like feet, and 6 malformed arms.

It’s quite a thing to look at, and pretty much the last thing you wanna run across late at night in The Forest.

Especially when you’re far from your shelter and not well armed. And she is. Because she has a lot of arms, you get it. Quieter than some of her mutant counterparts, you might still hear Virginias before you see them as they make a scrittering sound when they walk. Fighting her in a cave is possible if you’ve got some explosives on hand but out in the open she’s liable to leap at you so you’d be forgiven for turning tail and getting out of dodge.

She’s also usually accompanied by a group of other cannibals including mutant babies. Yuck.

What makes her especially scary is you don’t know that anything like her is on the island until you encounter her, resulting in many tales from players recounting their first paralysing experience with a Virginia.
