7. Sledgehammer - Clock Tower 3
Clock Tower 3 is certainly very divisive amongst both fans and genre aficionados for a number of reasons. The shift from a point-and-click interface to a fully 3D environment and control scheme was certainly jarring for long-time fans, and the campness dial being cranked up to insane new heights didn't help matters either.
That said though, Clock Tower 3 is still a whole lot of spooky fun, even if the major overhaul in its design and ethos isn't to your personal tastes.
And despite its often-misplaced energy, the game doesn't skimp on the horror when it comes to its stalkers and Sledgehammer certainly makes quite the impression when he first arrives on the scene.
He's shown to be chasing a young girl around a room, wildly swinging his giant hammer as she cries and tries to escape. Player character Alyssa arrives in time to see him smash the poor girl's head to smithereens, in what is undoubtedly one of the most disturbing deaths you're likely to see in a video game.
Before we even have time to process the horrific murder that's just taken place before us, Sledgehammer is immediately upon us, chasing us through the Parisian streets and he simply doesn't let up from there.
