Considering that the Xenomorph is often considered to be one of cinema's most nightmarish creations, it's genuinely baffling that so many video game developers have a hard time making them a force to be reckoned with.

Sure, there has been a handful of games that have made them scary, but it wasn't until the release of Alien: Isolation that we saw a developer truly harness just how terrifying these creatures can be.

Using innovative AI design, the makers of Isolation were able to create a monster that gives the illusion of free will - one that wasn't confined to traditional path-finding, and was capable of hunting you down in the same way an actual predator might. On its own, this would've been the recipe for a tense and harrowing horror game, but by giving it the skin of a Xenomorph and mining the films' retro-futurism aesthetic for maximum effect, the results were beyond terrifying.

Every time you enter a section of the game where the Xenomorph is prowling, you never know when or where it'll strike. It follows no set patterns and your actions will dictate how easily it finds you. If you're of a nervous disposition, this game is not for you.
